Everyone Counts Selected by UNESCO as Global Partner for Serving Voters with Disabilities

Everyone Counts’ CEO Lori Steele Invited to Participate in ITU World Telecom 2009 VIP Programme

Everyone Counts, an experienced election company that provides universal access voting solutions and consulting so that every ballot is reliably counted, announced today that UNESCO (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) has selected Everyone Counts from dozens of worldwide applicants to partner with UNESCO in their “Empowering Persons with Disabilities through ICT's” initiative.

Everyone Counts’ products demonstration at UNESCO’s Pavilion at ITU World Telecom 2009 is the first stage of the partnership.  UNESCO’s ITU World Telecom Pavilion aims to showcase successful ICT applications for people with disabilities in the area of education, sciences, culture, communication and information and provide a platform to establish new action-oriented partnerships and further cooperation among various stakeholders.  Democracy and Civil Rights, where Everyone Counts’ world-class expertise is recognized globally, are key components of this UNESCO endeavor.

“Everyone Counts is a social enterprise committed to providing accessible and transparent elections to electoral democracies throughout the world, empowering people with disabilities in every nation to have a private and independent voice in their government,” said Everyone Counts CEO, Lori Steele.

About 10 per cent of the world’s population has a disability of one form or another. While their living conditions vary, these people are united in one common experience – being exposed to various forms of discrimination and social exclusion. Even in the absence of a well-coordinated and well-planned infrastructure, information and communication technologies (ICTs) can offer them new opportunities to compensate for physical and functional limitations, to access knowledge and to enhance social and economic integration.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Telecom World 2009 is a major event for the global telecom and ICT sector. WORLD 2009 attracts key players from IT industry, governmental organizations, civil society, international organizations and academia for a truly global, world-class event and networking platform. To address shared global challenges in today’s information society, it incorporates thematic elements highlighting the reach and role of telecommunications and ICT in areas of societal change.

Ms. Steele has been invited to participate in the VIP Programme at ITU Telecom World 2009.
